Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located?
We are conveniently located at the Harbor Shops Plaza which is one block south of the 17th Street Causeway on Cordova Road. You can get directions to our dance studio here. Please call us or email for more information
Do I need a partner?
No. Here at Fred Astaire Dance Studios we teach both singles and couples. If you come in as one of our single students, your instructor will be your partner for your private lesson. Many of our couples take their lessons separately due to their personal schedules. Our Party Practice Sessions will provide plenty of opportunity to meet other students with the same interests and goals.
I've never taken ballroom dance before, what do I do?
The best way to start is to sign up for our Introductory Special. You'll get 2 private lessons and 1 group class, and you'll see what we're like, and what we have to offer, and it's only $33!.
How do I schedule lessons?
Lessons are scheduled by calling our dance studio and setting up an appointment. Our regular business hours are Monday through Friday from 12:00 to 9:00 pm and Saturday by special appointment.
What about after the special?
Our introductory course gives you the opportunity to experience our teaching methods. We offer a variety of beginner packages of lessons. Should you decide, after your special introductory, that you would like to continue your dancing, our instructors will be delighted to help you determine which packages will be better for you. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, cash , and personal checks.
How should I dress for my lesson?
Wear something comfortable that won't inhibit movement. Of course, comfortable shoes are recommended. We suggest leather soles and not running shoes. However ballroom dancing is a chance to dress up. The better you look, the more confident you'll feel.
Where will I use my dancing after my lessons?
Everywhere! Fred Astaire Dance Studios will guide you in any dance situation. Although many students come to us initially to learn for a special occasion, for example, a wedding, cruise, bar mitzvah, Doctor's Ball, etc., they find many other times for dance in their personal lives. Some dance at picnics, on the beach , at Summerfest, birthday parties, in their living room and the list goes on and on. Until you take the first step to learn, it is hard to imagine the many times you will "step out" into a dance situation.
